GASTRONOMY

The sea is the inspiration and centre of Torremolinos cooking. Fish in all shapes and sizes, normally served fried or barbecued on an open charcoal pit on the spit, served with refreshing gazpacho soup and a glass of slightly chilled Rioja, Red or White wine (Yes I know you were told to drink red wine at room temperature and only with Meat dishes , but trust me and try it with fresh fish and slightly chilled !!! . The chiringuitos along La Carihuela beach are renouned for their quality fresh fish dishes (Some people claim fish served here is the best in Spain), However,the many excellent restaurants in the town also serve some great fish dishes also . Paella is also a popular dish here originally a peasant food, this traditional dish is both nutritious and when made fresh is absolutely delicious, another firm favourite is Gambas Pil Pil, freshly peeled large prawns cooked quickly in piping hot olive oil with garlic and fresh chilli, try these as a starter or tapa, with freshly baked crusty bread and of course a glas of Vino ,,, Sheer culinery heaven.Other dishes traditional to Torremolinos include roasted pepper salad, made with roasted pepper, onion, tomato, oil, vinegar, salt and ali-oli. Pastry making is an important part of the gastronomic offer of this town too (due to its history as a flour producinga area, traditionally-made Tortas de Aceite de Torremolinos are amongst the most delicious pastries to be had in Spain.
